During a recent visit to Dhaka, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen alluded to "certain foreign countries" without naming them, but it is believed he was referring to the United States. Ambassador Yao mentioned "unilateral visa restrictions" in particular, implying that the U.S. was the subject of his remarks.
While delivering dengue test kits to Enam Medical College Hospital, Ambassador Yao emphasized the importance of standing by friends in times of need. He questioned the genuineness of a certain foreign country that claims to be Bangladesh's friend while discussing human rights, democracy, and free and fair elections. He pointed out that this country is imposing unilateral visa restrictions and potential economic sanctions on Bangladeshi people. In contrast, China does not interfere in the internal affairs of other nations and is focused on helping Bangladesh achieve greater economic success and improve the livelihoods of its citizens. Ambassador Yao suggested that the people should decide who the true friend of Bangladesh is. He also announced a $3.5 million anti-dengue aid package from China to Bangladesh during his visit. President Xi Jinping met with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during the BRICS summit in Johannesburg in August, strengthening the ties between the two nations.
