The registration period for the Diversity Visa 2025 program is now open, commencing on October 4, 2023, and concluding on November 7, 2023, at 12:00 noon, Eastern Standard Time (EST). It is crucial to note that only one entry per person is allowed during this registration period. If multiple entries are submitted for a single individual, all entries for that person will be invalidated.
Annually, the Department of State administers the Diversity Immigration Visa Program, a requirement under Section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. This program provides immigrants from countries with historically low U.S. immigration rates the opportunity to apply for a visa. For the Fiscal Year 2025, a total of 55,000 Diversity Visas (DVs) will be made available. The registration process is entirely free of charge; however, individuals selected for an interview will be required to pay a visa application fee before submitting their formal visa application. The eligibility for DVs is determined by a consular officer. Stringent requirements are in place for the Diversity Visas. The Department of State randomly selects individuals through a computer-based drawing, with selections made from six geographic regions. In any given year, no individual country can receive more than 7% of the available DVs. For DV-2025, natives of certain countries and areas are not eligible to apply. This restriction is imposed as over 50,000 natives of these countries have immigrated to the United States in the past five years, rendering them ineligible for the Diversity Visa program. These countries and areas include: - Bangladesh- Brazil- Canada- The People's Republic of China (including mainland and Hong Kong born)- Colombia- Dominican Republic- El Salvador- Haiti- Honduras- India- Jamaica- Mexico- Nigeria- Pakistan- Philippines- Republic of Korea (South Korea)-VenezuelaVietnam However, natives of Macau SAR and Taiwan are eligible to participate in the Diversity Visa 2025 program. A noteworthy update is the eligibility of the United Kingdom and its dependent territories, making them newly eligible for the program. No other alterations to eligibility criteria have been introduced.
