This means that migrants seeking residence through various work-related visas in New Zealand, such as the Work to Residence (WTR) Visa, Care Workforce Work to Residence Visa, or Transport Work to Residence Visa, can apply if they possess a minimum of two years of eligible experience in a role specified in the Green List sector agreement and meet the required skill and wage criteria in the country. Applicants are also required to fulfill the standard visa application prerequisites, including health, character, English language proficiency, and age. The 24 months of relevant work experience must be acquired while holding any type of work visa or a Critical Purpose Visitor Visa with work rights, starting from September 29, 2021, and within 30 months of submitting their residence visa application. Applicants for the WTR Visa must meet the role-specific or median wage threshold applicable at the beginning of their 24 months of work experience and at the time of their residence application. If the median wage increases during the 24 months of work experience, they must meet the new threshold either when applying for the visa or if they change jobs. However, some exceptions apply to individuals who were granted their work visa or Critical Purpose Visitor Visa (with work rights) before September 29, 2023. There is also a new priority for processing skilled residence applications starting from September 29, 2023. This prioritization applies to Straight to Residence (STR) Visa, Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) Visa, and Work to Residence Visa applications. It means that immigration officers will review these applications ahead of others but will follow the same assessment and verification procedures.
Importantly, there is no limit to the number of skilled residence visas that can be issued, and all visas will be granted to applicants who meet the necessary requirements.
