The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland has announced the opening of a Visa Application Center that aims to streamline and simplify the visa application process for Finland and Sweden. This center will offer enhanced services to applicants and is expected to improve the overall experience. Applicants are required to submit their visa applications in person and well in advance, as the processing time for visas is 15 calendar days. Advance booking of an appointment at the Visa Application Center is mandatory for all applicants. Despite the new center, the Embassy of Finland will continue to process applications and make visa decisions. Additionally, the embassy will handle all notary matters, residence permit applications, and passport services.
Previously scheduled meetings with the Embassy of Finland will remain unchanged, ensuring a smooth transition to the new Visa Application Center. Furthermore, a dedicated website and helpline for visa applicants will be launched in November to provide additional support and information. Citizens of Cyprus who wish to travel to Finland do not require a visa, as both countries are part of the European Union. However, individuals residing in Cyprus from countries under the EU visa regime may need to apply for a visa. In terms of safety, Cyprus has a current risk level of three out of five, determined based on travel advice from independent sources. Last year, Finnair introduced non-stop flights connecting Larnaca and Helsinki, facilitating travel between the two countries and bringing Finnish tourists to Cyprus during the summer season. Minister Yiannis Karousos, responsible for Transport, Communications, and Works, expressed his satisfaction with the renewal of air connections between Finland and Cyprus, announcing that five weekly flights from Finland to Larnaca, including two operated by Finnair, will be available this year.
